🇦🇪 UAE tip
Zakat is 2.5% of your total Zakatable wealth that has been held for one full lunar year (hawl), provided it exceeds the Nisab threshold.
The Zakat Calculator helps Muslims in the UAE accurately calculate their annual Zakat obligation on savings, gold, investments, and business assets based on the Nisab threshold.
What is Zakat?
Zakat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam — an annual obligatory charity of 2.5% on qualifying wealth (known as Zakatable assets) that has been held for one full lunar year (hawl) and exceeds the Nisab threshold. It is intended to purify wealth and redistribute it to those in need.
What is the Nisab threshold?
The Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth a Muslim must possess before Zakat becomes obligatory. It is equivalent to either 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver. Using the gold standard (as most scholars recommend), the 2026 Nisab is approximately AED 23,800–26,000 depending on gold prices.
What assets are Zakatable?
Zakatable assets include: cash and bank savings, gold and silver jewellery (above personal use), shares and investments, business inventory and receivables. Non-Zakatable assets include: your primary residence, personal vehicle, household furniture, and tools of your trade.
Frequently asked questions
Can Zakat be paid in installments throughout the year?+
While Zakat becomes due at the end of the hawl (one lunar year), many scholars permit spreading payments throughout the year as an advance, as long as the full 2.5% is paid by the hawl completion date.
Is Zakat paid on gold jewellery?+
Scholars differ on this. The majority position holds that gold and silver jewellery intended for investment or excess amounts above personal use are Zakatable. Jewellery worn regularly for personal use is considered exempt by some schools of thought.
Who are the eligible recipients of Zakat?+
The Quran specifies eight categories: the poor, the needy, Zakat administrators, those whose hearts are to be reconciled, slaves, debtors, those in the cause of Allah (fisabilillah), and travellers in need.
